So yeah, you can skip it in a heart beat. The game is the less Assassin game of all. Unity, on the other hand, is the most Assassin game of the series. Beware of performance though. Edit: The most interesting thing about Black Flag is a lot of people like it. And Origins. And they are the two games where you are not an assassin.

The strange thing is they were all in the Sapi-Res Nome region. One the 'bandit' cavern area are when doing the Scarab quest. One on the docks by the Northwestern most part of the area, while doing a sidequest.
Even if plan is set to max performance. Check this by going to device manager>network adapters>find your ethernet adapter connected>properties>power management>allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. See if that is checked, if so, try to uncheck it. See if problem persists.

Aim first for the sails (until the indicator turns red) to burn them and slow down their movement. Keeping them at a distance and picking them off one by one is much easier. When you get the mortar, that also has a very generous range and a fairly quick reload cycle. Obviously you did not play Black flag.
